Downingtown West Cruises to a League Victory

Downingtown West (1-0 League, 10-0 Season) opened their Ches-Mont League with a convincing victory over Coatesville. Coatesville forfeited three weight classes, at 103 lbs., 119 lbs., and 215 lbs. giving Downingtown a lead of 18 points. Four pins and three majors helped give the Whippets a 50-point lead at the final buzzer, with the score at 60-10.

Downingtown led off with a 10-6 victory by heavyweight Alex Bause over Derek Fuller. At 103, Ryan Uhler got his first varsity win with a forfeit. 112 saw Pat May pin Ike Baxter in one minute fourteen seconds. D.J. Evans increased his win column at 119 with a forfeit. Jason Scanlon, at 125, wasted no time pinning Mihali Sikoutris in 46 seconds. Chris Uhler majored his opponent, Brandon Taylor with a score of 13-5 at the 130 pound weight class.

Jake Miller, at 135, got a pin over Will Martinez in 3 minutes 22 seconds. Steve Rathfon, at 140 lbs., pinned Ryan Hall at 1 minute 46 seconds. Freshman, Josh Homer, at 145 scored a major decision over Ryan Pauling with a score of 13-0. The 152 pound weight class put Chris Kalbach up against state qualifier and recent Century Club Coatesville wrestler Corey Blake. Chris wrested a great match! Even though the final score showed 11-0, Chris stayed tough against the state ranked wrestler. At 160 pounds, Nate Mewhort got to go against another Coatesville elite wrestler, Max Henderson. A pin for Max brought the score to 47-10.

The best match of the night pitted Paul Roseberry against Jared Blake at 171 lbs. The match was a full six minutes of very tough wrestling, with Paul getting the win with a score of 11-7. At 189 lbs., Joe deGaravilla wrestled a very strong Mike McGirk for a win of 11-2. The final bout brought 215 pounder Nojan Zomorrodian a win with a Coatesville forfeit.
