The Whippets (1-0 Ches-Mont, 8-0 D-1, 14-1 overall) remain undefeated against D-1 competition by out wrestling the North Penn Knights, 46-11. The match started off quickly when Nojan Zomorrodian (215) picked up a forfeit. Downingtown West never relinquished the lead! Alex Bause (275) controlled his entire match with three take downs and only yielded two escape points en rout to a 6-2 victory.
Senior, Rob Akers (103) remained undefeated for the season with a major decision in the midst of stiff competition from North Penn’s Pat Owens. D.J. Evans (119), who is also having an impressive year, used three take downs, one escape and two back points to maintain control and win his match 9-3.
The next three matches enabled Downingtown to put score out of reach! Jason Scanlon (125) aggressively went after his opponent scoring two take downs and four 3-point near falls, giving him the tech fall in the second period. Chris Uhler (130) received a forfeit and Jake Miller (135) pinned his opponent with a time of 3:20.
Freshman Josh Homer (145) continues to impress those who watch his matches. After nearly being pinned in the first period, Josh fought back in the next two periods and finished on top 8-5. This match was a clear example of conditioning and Josh showed that he can outlast tough competition.
The final two matches of the meet were dominated by seniors Paul Roseberry (171) and Joe deGaravilla (189). Paul cruised to a 9-1 major decision and Joe pinned his opponent early in the second period (2:36).
