Joey D picks up 100th win as Downingtown West gets a step closer to Ches-Mont title The 189 pound match-up was the most highly anticipated bout of the night. The opponents were Joe deGaravilla, Downingtown West, who is ranked third in D-1 versus Craig Whitaker, West Chester East, currently ranked fifth in D-1. Joey D picked up his 100th career win by staying in control of the close match. WAY TO GO JOE!!! The entire event between Downingtown West (2-0 Ches-Mont, 9-0 D-1, 15-1 overall) and West Chester East seemed closer on paper than it did in reality. With careful match-ups, the Whippets were one very close match away from a perfect shut out. The final score of 56-3 is a great example of the coaching experience and great athletes on our team. The night started off at 125, where Jason Scanlon easily majored Scott Seifert. At 130, Chris Uhler got the decision over Dan Giangulio. The 135 bout put Matt McDonough against Kevin Weber for another DW victory. The Whippet sent out Jake Miller (140) for a very close match against Brian Castiglioni. Behind after the first period by 9 points, Castiglioni fought his way back to almost tie it up. Miller stayed tough and hung on for a 10-9 victory in a very competitive battle. Josh Homer dominated his match at 145. The coaches moved Steve Rathfon up to 152 to get the win over Kendall Whitaker. At 160 pounds, Nate Mewhort won his first varsity match. Congratulations Nate!!! The 171 pound match had Paul Roseberry dominating Andy Androwick. Next up was the premier contest of the night, Joe deGaravilla against Craig Whitaker, with Joe picking up win number 100! Nojan Zomorrodian made quick work of his opponent, pinning him in 13 seconds. The only win of the night for West Chester East was at heavyweight, where Josh Mummert came from behind and was able to hang on and pull out a win against Alex Bause. The last three matches of the evening were quick pins for Downingtown. Rob Akers (103), pinned his opponent at 1:28 to remaining undefeated for the year.
