Downingtown West Maintains Undefeated Record

In a battle of unbeaten teams in the Ches-Mont, Downingtown West (17-0, 4-0 Ches-Mont) emerged victorious. With both teams coming in at 3-0, a great deal was riding on this match. Downingtown East (15-3, 3-1 Ches-Mont) got on the board first when Dan Linskens (103) was able to hold off Clint Rosario for a 6-4 decision. Pat May (112) scored a series of takedowns and near fall points before pinning Joe Linskens in 4:41. The Cougars tied the match back up at 119 when Billy Heemer scored a decision over Doug Worrell. This was as close as the Whippets would let the score get. West reeled off eight straight wins to put the match away. Starting at 125, D.J. Evans wasted no time by pinning his opponent in 1:49. Bernard Mewhort (130) followed with a pin of his own in 3:02. In a well fought bout, Jason Scanlon (135) was in control of the entire match and won the decision 6-0. Two more pins by Chris Uhler (140) in 3:12 and Jake Miller (145) in 1:05 all but solidified the win for Downingtown West!

Steve Rathfon (152) began the evening in a celebration before the home fans for his 100th win! He continued his winning ways with five takedowns en-route to a 19-3 win by tech fall. What looked to be a close battle at 160, Branden Brainard took an early 2-1 lead over Josh Homer at the end of the first. Josh kicked into high gear and scored ten straight points to earn a major decision victory. Rounding up the string of eight straight wins was Jared Blake. His match was the most exciting of the evening! With each opponent only yielding escape points to the other, Jared was able to ride out Brian Fitzgerald in triple overtime. East managed to get back on the board with decisions at 189, 215 and a forfeit by West at 285.

In earlier JV action, West wrestled to a 15-3 score in four matches. At 125, Patrick Messner picked up a quick pin in 1:19. Casey Leavens (145), wresting a very close match and won 2-1. At the 160 weight class, Alex Jarvis picked up another quick pin in 1:53.
